Re: Nearly 1,000 Protest Israeli Atrocities in Gaza, Lebanon
There's no point arguing the fine points! Any pro-Israel argument is rebutted with Pro-Terrorism rhetoric! You've all got to accept that Israel isn't going anywhere. That Israel will outlast nations that attempt to destroy it. That your protests are in support of those nations, and that your actions are atrocious, as are the actions of those your tacitly support.
Israel dropped flyers to warn of their campaign. Israel selectively targets terrorist infrastructure, and reluctantly civilian infrastructure when terrorists are making use of it. Lebanon has long had a burden to rid themselves of their terrorist militias - even if they are supported by foreign nations. Especially if they are supported by foreign nations. A nation that cannot enforce its own rule of law is not a nation - it is a puppet of those that enforce their own law within it.
Israel has no business being assaulted by puppets, puppeteers, or the audience cheering and jeering the little show they're putting on.
You can't buy peace of mind with mindless protest. You can't buy safety by submitting to terrorists.
Lebanon, you've got to control yourself. What comes from within your borders constitutes who you are. You cannot disavow your constituency. Just as we, the liberal left, cannot disavow the lunacy commonly disseminated here, on Indymedia.
Re: Re: Nearly 1,000 Protest Israeli Atrocities in Gaza, Lebanon
Threatening to destroy an entire country unless they comply with your demands is an act of terrorism. This is exactly what an Israeli officer did when he said that Israel would send Lebanon back 20 years into the past. You don't see Israeli violence as terrorism because you are blinded by ideology to think that the other side's casualties don't count.
I am an American. The interests of the United States are not well served by destroying and destabilizing arab countries. What you are demanding is that Lebanon restart the civil war or else you will make the country uninhabitable. That is not a reasonable demand. A government consisting exclusively of one faction which is at war with the other factions would not survive.
The current government of Lebanon is pro-western. If you continue to make war against the Lebanese people, you will continue to radicalize the entire region. Maybe that is what you want.
In addition, the job of American troops trying to restore order in Iraq is not being helped by Israel's actions. A counterinsurgency or pacification war requires the cooperation of the local population because only those people have the information needed to track down terrorists. Iraqis and Afghans are not going to be willing to cooperate with American forces if they see the United States giving its blessing to a major Israeli war against arab countries. Instead they will see Americans as an extension of the IDF.
It is not in the long term interests of Jews for the United States to lose the war in Iraq. I find the indifference of the pro-Israeli crowd to the safety of American troops disturbing.
I did not demonstrate but I have written to my representatives in Congress about my concerns.
Re: Re: Nearly 1,000 Protest Israeli Atrocities in Gaza, Lebanon
Pro-terrorism rhetoric remains a lesser evil than the actual terrorism of genocide the world witnessed in the last four days. “Israel selectively targets terrorist infrastructure.” Are toddlers and infants part of your “terrorist infrastructure”? Stop your sleight of hand acrobatics. Stop deceiving the world about who you are.
It’s Israel that doesn’t want peace, for if peace prevails, there won’t be billions of American tax payers’ money “siphoned” to Israeli coffers annually. Israel lives and can only survive on other nations’ sense of guilt. Didn’t they make an industry of the holocaust? Poor, present Germans are still paying for crimes they are not responsible for.
