Condolences for Mahmoud Darwish

Mahmoud Darwish gave a voice to the Palestinians through his writings and was able to define a country's collective spirit through his work. The Palestinians and the entire world revered Mr. Darwish as a literary icon, and as an artist whose voice will be forever missed.

Cops Infest Dupont Circle; Homeless Among Targets
For the past several weeks, cops have totally saturated the Dupont Circle area on Friday and Saturday nights. Homeless folks are reporting that cops in the circle itself had made it a point to wake up and drive off anyone who dares to sleep in the park at night!

"The January 2005 Inauguration was marred by the exclusion of thousands of people who were denied access because the National Park Service had attempted to turn Pennsylvania Avenue into the private domain of the Bush-Cheney Presidential Inaugural Committee. As a result of our lawsuit, people may have additional opportunities to access the Inaugural Parade, including those who hold an anti-war view. On Friday, August 1st I led a contingent of the Uhuru Movement into Barack Obama’s town hall meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida to raise the question, “what about the black community, Obama?” Without the benefit of a big media budget, our organization attempted to bring the serious issues experienced by African working class people across this country into the national political debate.

Interview with Muhammad Ahmad (Max Stanford) 3-30-08
Naji Mujahid of the DC Radio Co-op interviewed Muhammad Ahmad, formerly known as Max Stanford, in Jackson, Mississippi 3-30-08, while attending the reunion of members of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement. He has recently authored a book, 'We Will Return in the Whirlwind', which is a history and critique of several of the most influential Black Liberation groups from the period of 1960-1975. He was also a member of SNCC, SDS, Black Panther Party, in the 60's.
