As one of the people who protested the nazi white trash (oh, does that offend you conservatives that I call Nazis "white trash"? Boo Hoo. I thought you right wingers were all for hate speech.) conference at the Hyatt, I can tell you that we did not hinder the white supremacists' or the Hyatt's freedom of speech in any way whatsoever. We were not lobbying for there to be "hate speech" laws. We were not forcing the racists to keep their mouths shut or be thrown in jail. We were not forcing the Hyatt to stop hosting racist trash. We were exposing the Hyatt for it's history of supporting white supremacists and we were bringing shame upon the Hyatt so that in the future, those in the Hyatt may be more inclined to decide on their own free will not to host racist events. There is a big difference between what we were doing and limiting freedom of speech. You may have heard the line, "the cure for hate speech is not restrictions on freedom of speech, the cure for hate speech is more speech." And that's what we were doing. We were practicing "more speech", not restricting speech. I find it interesting though that conservatives who are so eager to have cops arrest people for speaking out against war and occupation, are all of the sudden champions of free speech when racist extremists like those at the Amren confrence want to engage in their ignoramus trash conventions. It goes to show that conservatives are actually not interested in free speech, but are simply interested in squashing dissent and supporting white supremacists. Their free speech argument crumbles under the slightest consideration.
