Peace and justice will never be accomplished with violence. Violence will only ever beget more violence. What will change the world is love and making the changes within ourselves and inspiring others to strive for the same. But clogging up the system and speaking truth to power, whether it be a judge or jury, helps.

The notion that the US can't handle arresting a few thousand (very generous holiday estimate) extra people a year is hilarious, and speaks of a seriously inflated sense of importance.
The privileged voluntary activist arrest is usually only summary offenses, which are glorified traffic tickets and have no effect on the legal system.

Not sure who you are saying is privileged. My friend Eve just did 6 days behind bars, she is a retired D.C. public school teacher living on a very limited income. She doesn't pay any of her fines, and her trials further the resistance. Also, I was arrested a few times this year, and barely make above minimum wage.

These self-described anarchists come from the Northern Virginia burbs and try and preach to us on how to be radical. But bless 'em. They are trying to affect changes, even if their methods are hurtful and ineffective (mark it up to the follies and hormones of youth). A few hundred are a lot better than the 6 or 7 you have at most of the local black bloc gatherings.

I've never really heard too much preaching from any folks in a black bloc, but the non-violent mystical set seems to be pretty fond of it. It's even better when they use myths as evidence of their moral, tactical, and strategic superiority.
If was young, and I came from Northern Virginia, I'd be angry, too. India, Alabama, and Vietnam are all gardens of earthly delight because you were hauled in for failure to disperse.
