What are you going to do if the cops throw you out?

Re: America Supports You - Freedom Walk!

Those fences for the Pentagon's march could be a death trap. Just a couple weeks ago hundreds of Iraqis were trampled to death in this march:
www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi

"tens of thousands of pilgrims were squeezed by security barriers and panicked by false rumors of an impending suicide attack."

I'd avoid going to the Pentagon's misnamed march, as anything could panic these chickenhawks. Supposed someone mentioned Cindy Sheehan, for example...

Re: America Supports You - Freedom Walk!

I can't believe that no one in this town full of so-called "activists" -- all of whom are presumably outraged (as I am) by the draconian restrictions put upon real freedom by the Pentagon lifers who have organized the "Freedom Walk" -- is publicly planning to crash their fascist party and encouraging others to do so.

According to yesterday's Post article:
"Park Police officials said security and safety were concerns, especially because Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld will participate in some of the day's events. They said they have approved a permit for a small group of protesters that plans to stand along Independence Avenue."

Who are these people? Have they publicized their intentions? I don't see anything posted here.

Well, hell, I'm gonna go, you bet. And when the cops tell me I can't participate I'm gonna ask them how it feels to be America's stormtroopers for fascism. Is that what their profession has become? Are they proud to be a part of this desecration of the idea of freedom? Etc., etc, etc.

Then I'm gonna walk along the parade route, if that's possible, and hang out on the Mall during the concert with a sign denouncing the war and senseless sacrifice of the soldiers who are dying in it.

I'll be interested to see how they segregate the concert area near the Lincoln Memorial from all the tourists who will be there. I hope the whole world gets a good look at what this American president really means when he talks about "freedom".

Re: America Supports You - Freedom Walk!

...wouldn't dignify their PR gimmick with even a second thought...

Re: America Supports You - Freedom Walk!

"America supports you"

Sounds like a slogan for a jock strap.

The Pentagram closed the registration for their funfest yesterday. Let's just say if the number of people who registered was of any PR value, it would be all over the headlines by now. Of course, someone has to delete all the Mickey Mouses and Donald Ducks that registered to participate first.

Post Abandons Freedom Walk, Commences Face-Saving Crawl

The Washington Post announced today that it was withdrawing sponsorship of the America Supports You Freedom Walk, the Pentagon's subdued fourth-anniversary commemoration of the 9/11 terror attacks, culminating in a National Mall concert by Clint ("I Raq and Roll") Black. Antiwar activists, the Post's Newspaper Guild local, and some Post reporters all questioned the seemliness of the paper's sponsorship of an event that seemed to be plumping for the long-discredited connection between the war on terror and the Iraq War. Post flak Eric Grant announced:

As it appears that this event could become politicized, The Post has decided to honor the Washington area victims of 9/11 by making a contribution directly to the Pentagon Memorial Fund. . . . It is The Post's practice to avoid activities that might lead readers to question the objectivity of The Post's news coverage.

A propos of that last point, we anxiously await word on the cancellation of Bob Novak's column. -- HOLLY MARTINS

Re: America Supports You - Freedom Walk!

I agree with y stay at home. You people are pathetic. What a bunch of loosers. All I hear is you punks talking a good game. You all talk the talk but no of you all walk the walk. No wonder this country is fucked. Not a set of balls among you.

Re: America Supports You - Freedom Walk!

"Let's just say if the number of people who registered was of any PR value"

Wow! An entire 1,500 showed up. Go freedum! What a turnout! Especially considering that about 25,000 people work there.
