Hundreds of Thousands Put Impeachment Back On the Table, Capitol Hill Taken 3x

It looks like hundreds of thousands showed up on The Mall on January 27, or enough to completely fill this pretty huge several block circle around the Capitol. See Map

Tim Robbins got a really big cheer when he said, "Impeach". People showed up with homemade stickers and mass produced signs, with the same idea. There were alot of speakers. The crowd was half boomers and half students, mostly white.

When the March started, the cops had the top of Constitution blocked off, to force the long march to make a U Turn and go back, until people started yelling at them that the huge "Congressional Backbone" Puppet, couldn't make a U-Turn. Then the cops opened up the street and the marchers went for a long walk.

In the meanwhile, the "Came-to-DC-and-Don't-Want-To-March-in-A-Circle" Bloc, took the Capitol steps once in the morning and ran up The Hill, 2 more times throughout the day. A separate group of young people had a sit-in on Independence Ave, formed a human "peace sign". The Capitol Police first tried to clear the street of the sit-in, by sending in motorcycle cops, one of whom ran over a kid's foot, so they attempted to arrest that kid. The cops on horseback showed up on the other side of the street. The kids kept sitting down. One cop showed up with a pepper spray tank. Lots of people took cell phone pictures, asked for badge numbers, and motorcycle numbers, and started calling people up about what was happening. Then the cops really backed off and left one Lt. and a few guys. The Lt. started doing the "First, Second Warning" thing, so the few kids sitting decided they won anyway, and eventually moved out of the street.

The last part of the day, the Don't-Want-To-March-in-A-Circle bloc made a last dash to the Hill, formed a mosh pit and then moved back down.

Someone said that Capitol Police are now working for Nancy Pelosi, so it would be politically really bad if anyone was arrested today. Noone was arrested, as far as I know.

The cops arrive.

Here's the full story on the sit-in. When I arrived with the tail end of the march, people were sitting on the street, drumming and chanting: "Sit down! Surround the capital!" There were clearly not enough people to accomplish that second task, but I'd estimate at least two hundred sitting on the asphalt at the peak.

Occasionally a helicopter would fly overhead, and everyone would cheer and wave two fingers in the air.

At one point someone got the idea to form a human peace sign with all of our suddenly cooperative bodies, and we got up, formed a circle and some central lines, and sat down, began singing "All we are saying is give peace a chance. . ."

Then the drumming started up in full force, and everyone got up and danced ecstatically. Just as the energy was reaching a crescendo the police arrived, sirens wailing, started ushering people to the sidewalks to clear the street. There was huge disappointment. But not enough were prepared to stand their ground, and even among some calls of "Whose streets? Our streets" only a dozen or so stayed. No arrests were made, but it was clear the cops felt threatened, for this is what they sent for a human peace sign and some dancing in the streets:

  • 10 motorcycles
  • 16 squad cars
  • 1 paddy wagon
  • 2 vans
  • 1 Jeep
  • 50 policemen
  • 20 horses
  • 1 sniper on the roof

yeah! we rock!

hey...this sit in started with me, memphis, from world cant wait, and sergey, from world cant wait chicago.
we decided immediate action was needed to create a stir on saturday. we sat down. convinced others to do the same.
eventually we got all the people you see here, and the cops actually ran over a guy, not just his foot, like previously reported. they tried to arrest him, but didn't. finally the cops left and everyone celebrated by going to the last taking of capitol hill where we played an improvised drum, made out of an orange and white construction barrell and picket sign sticks.
gotta make some noise.
yeah! we rock!

I am very proud of the protestors. I arrived after the speeches and stayed the rest of the afternoon. Instead of anger and hysteriam I found determination on the faces of marchers. It is our duty to keep up the pressure on Congress, daily. Since I live in the area, I will find time to keep protesting at the Capitol and around the house and senate office buildings. Love to you all

Time came to impeach bush-chenney; shame that an
american became a war criminal. How many iraquies women and children have been killed by the usa bombs? the guilty duo have lied to the people of the world and have violated the constitution. It is enough.

Re: Hundreds of Thousands Put Impeachment Back On the Table, Capitol Hill Taken 3x

No one died when Clinton lied.

Re: Re: Hundreds of Thousands Put Impeachment Back On the Table, Capitol Hill Taken 3x

Just 1.5 million died from his sanctions on Iraq and the countless others who died in Kososvo and Somalia and Sudan and Waco (TX), I think that stupid pro war pro democrat statement should better read nobody died because Klinton lied about getting a stupid fucking blowjob but many died from his whole presidency, yet all these fucking leftists do there best to hide it because Klinton was a democrat and that makes death and destruction O.K.

I bet if John KKKerry had gone into Iraq just as Bush you would be fucking beside yourself with joy, but when the republikan does it you attack them, and that is fucking complete and total bullshit war started by any party, it doesn't fucking matter, is straight wrong and if you don't stand against it then you are just standing for it.

Re: Hundreds of Thousands Put Impeachment Back On the Table, Capitol Hill Taken 3x

This new Congress must take up the issue of Impeachment of George Bush, Dick Cheney and Condoleezza Rice. House of Representatives Bill H. RES. 1106 from the 109th Congress.

Any efforts put forth by our country will be sabotaged by the presents of this Administration.

George Bush has too much baggage to lead this country into any kind of healing
and there is no one in the world that wants to deal with him. It is much worse than a lame duck president. It is our country that is lame as long as he occupies our white house

Most of our government is broken, but it does have in its design a system to address the circumstances we are faced with today. That part of our governments design will also be broken if it is circumvented and not used.

Nancy Pelosi our young people and the rest of the world need to know that we can have a government with integrity. Your country needs you! The children of this great nation need you!

Allow our government’s safeguard system to work as it was designed, with the proper order of ascension to function.

Believe in our system enough to allow it to work. Participate in it. Don’t manipulate it.
Take strength from your faith to know, others that love this county will close ranks to be supportive of your mission and share in the work to be done

Only when our government is functional at the worst of times, do we discover that Our Flag is still there.

Act decisively. Do not sweep what has happened the last 6 years under the rug like it never happened. There is wisdom and understanding to be gained for the present and for posterity.

As a country we must go into the pain of this process to re-affirm, what it is - that we stand for as a nation.

Let our voices be heard where it counts. Affirm that this is a democracy of the people and for the people.
