Residents had struck a deal with the Williams administration(!) to build new housing for all Temple Courts residents prior to planned demolition and "redevelopment" of the rapidly gentrifying area.

Now Fenty wants to go back on this deal and let HUD and Bush Construction terminate the rent assistance contract,evict 211 families into the street, issue useless Section 8 vouchers that almost no landlords accept(years-long wait list!), and build something else on the site.

This is in sharp contrast to the treatment the rich get-as several speakers pointed out, the baseball stadium is being built before instead of after any demolition of RFK Stadium! Not only that, in city after city those who work in the stadiums cannot afford to attend games, much less pay for market-rate housing.
