DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY, ACTION

One friend I spoke to in the crowd put it at a hundred thousand. Another friend guessed at least in the high five digits. I decided to go with the estimate of radio host and speaker Joe "the Black Eagle" Madison, and report to you that "a whole lot of people" came out today to demand action from the Department Of "Justice" and its newly-installed Torturer General to take action on hate crimes and police violence committed against Black America.

My main worry was that so many folks might actually be expecting constructive action on racial and State violence from a Department which, in itself, has become a hate crime. No, c'mon; we're talking about a guy here who never could come right out and say if he thought waterboarding – simulated drowning, f'cripesake – was torture or not.

Nonetheless, a fantastic afternoon full of the kind of street heat that the likes of TG Mukasey need to see.

Why did the right wing thug squad Guardian Angels show up, let me guess the Freepers hired them so they wouldn't have to show up!!!

Believe it or not, they were protecting Sharpton. Curtis Sliwa always hedges his bets.

Yeah, I was wondering about that, too. Everything I remember about them, ever since Sliwa's first appearance on the old Morton Downey Jr. Show about twenty years ago, said "thug caste", and had me asking myself what the hell they were doing here. I mean, shit, it's not like there weren't plenty of actual cops around to deal with things if the hey-hey-ho-ho'ing got out of hand, but here were the goddamn' Guardian Angels, again? I remember seeing them lurking around the scene at the ANSWER mobe back in September, so I don't think they were down here at Sharpton's request, and sure as hell can't imagine ANSWER asking them down.

Or, maybe so…I don't know; it might just be a NYC thing. At any rate, I've always gotten creeped out at the sight of them. I don't know why.
