Re: SUDANESE JOURNALIST tortured in prison while hundreds arrested requesting Guantanamo Prison shut-down
**********go to www.witnesstorture.org for photos and more details on the day**********
January 11, 2008 - 82 people were arrested at the U.S. Supreme Court as part of Witness Against Torture's January 11th action to Shut Down Guantánamo. About half were arrested inside the U.S. Supreme Court; the others were arrested on the steps of the Court.
About 70 of those arrested withheld their identification and instead gave the name of a detainee upon arrest. When the arrestees were called into court after 30 hours in custody, many of their cases on the docket were listed with the names of men in Guantanamo, and when the defendants appeared before the judge, they spoke these names into the court record.
As of 8pm, Saturday, all 82 people have been released. Many of the arrestees were denied food and water for most of the 30 hours they were detained.
46 pled not guilty are going back to trial. Others accepted an agreement not to be arrested for the next six months in exchange for the charges being dropped.
People were charged with "unlawful free speech on supreme court grounds." People who were arrested inside the building received an additional charge of "causing a harangue within the supreme court."
Arrestees included people from all over the country; teenagers and octogenarians; first time arrestees; & members of Witness Against Torture's original delegation that walked to Guantanámo to visit the prisoners in December of 2005.
The arrests followed a solemn march from the National Mall of 400 persons that included a procession of activists dressed like the Guantánamo prisoners in orange jumpsuits and black hoods. The procession was preceded with a short rally at the Mall organized by Amnesty International, the National Religious Campaign Against Torture and Witness Against Torture. The event was part of an International Day of Action that was endorsed by over 100 groups and that included 83 events around the world.
Witness Against Torture would like to thank everyone who helped make yesterday's action the success that it was. Your prayers, your participation, your endorsements, your publicity and of course your financial support are all deeply appreciated. Re: SUDANESE JOURNALIST tortured in prison while hundreds arrested requesting Guantanamo Prison shut-down
George W. Bush has a picture in the oval room of the Whitehouse that shows his grandfather, father, and himself. Prescott Bush, Bush jr's grandfather, was on the executive along with Avril Harriman, of the Thyssen Corp., Thysson was the finance Capitalist who headed up the Adolf Hitler project in Germany after the 1933 coup of the Nazis in Germany. Prescott Bush on behalf of the Imperialist rulers of America sold hundreds of war materials to the Nazis military , and the list is long and not inconsequential, now in the trading with the enemy act offices, which organization closed down his business in Oct. 1942. This was no small operation, he and the Thysson corp of America, sold to the nazis military, for example, 50% of its pig iron, and 45% of its high explosives. This while the right deviated revisonists of the time were covering these deeds with their calls for a nuetral America, with no war. That confusion mezermized the American workers to think all was on the level, when in fact the Second world war was being planned as an anti-communist crusade by the corporationists and imperialist military of America (manifest destiny world), against the workers of the world from uniting in a correct way, a workers state way so the majority could unite correctly around the world. In other words fascism and the guns of Hitler were put in place deliberately to create the imperialist state that would destroy the workers unions from uniting and globally and especially to destroy the flegling Soviet Union which was arising and popular throughout the world. In this fascist goal of destroying socialism, and the workers state which is organized by the workers themselves as trade unions, etc., the Family of Bush has not ceased for one second of one day of one month, year around. They have consistenly posed as liberaters of America, while planning the demise of the workers' states and supporting the rule of elites that sit on the corporations executive and serve the imperialist military against the workers desire, as the true majority, from becomming the rulers and makers of a new society free of war, gender discrimination, enlaving conditions of work, the historical and herstorical end of poverty. To do that we must Re-tool the entire industrial revolution to wind, tidal, and solar power (rosey the peaceful rivetors) which transforms to electricity and is more power than can be used by society. No more blackouts. This non-pollution solution Bush, after his appointment in 2000 AD, took two months to cancel the agreements made of the previous administration, declaring Green Power to be irrelevant to the American Economy. Another big lie. Industrial pollution is destroying the ecological balances of life globally and nationally, and is threatening the livability of the planet. He is a lier and is active to this day sabotaging the green movements and parties globally. He is addicted to Oil monopolization and militarism and not in the peoples struggles for liberation from excessive militarism, and the pollution that derives from their rule. In fact each year his energy policy is in place, tens of thousands of American citizens are killed by it. He therefore does not represent the workers, peasant farmers, or the commonwealth soldiers who are presently revolting against Bushco globally and who are the true majority and have opted for a new way without aggressive war and pollution for money. That way is called socialism the government for and of the majority, which is the worker in each and every country on the planet. Organic agricultural communes not polluting prisons!!! Workers of the world, unite!!!
