National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

On Jan 12, members of John Niremberg's impeachment march(which started over a month ago in Boston) were either denied entry to or expelled from the National Archives for wearing clothing printed with the articles of the Constitution concerning impeachment.

In the audio, the following interviews are presented after a short intro:

John Nirenberg speaking about the march from Boston

A participant denied entry into the Archives(over a vest)

A participant challenged by security inside the Archives, preceded by the last seconds of the guard's challenge. The security guard's words did not come out well, but the interviews did.

The last leg of John's Boston to DC march began at Union Station and ended at the Archives, with about 80 people reportedly participating. Probably there would have been more, but many people were still in jail from yesterday's Gitmo actions.

At the National Archives, the Constitution and First Amendment are on permanent display, yet the exercise of the very rights enshrined in this document are prohibited both by posted signs and by security guards.

It's one thing to ask that people leave their signs outside, but to exile the rally to the other side of the street, then to demand that people cover up T-shirts referring to impeachment or leave the building is something else altogether.
What would they do if someone had a (temporary or otherwise) tattoo on their face demanding impeachment?

Ever since Bush began even RUNNING for President in 2000(and having protesters at his rallies arrested), there has been a campaign in this country to burn the constitution that is supposedly the sole source of their authority. The Archives itself is now part of this, but people there got off lucky compared to those at the 2004 GOP convention arrested for merely being on the same block as protesters, much less those detained at Guantanimo Bay or shipped abroad to be tortured.

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

I'm calling my Senators and Congressman to insist they do something about this outrage!

Re: Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

hahahaha...funny! Unless you were actually serious, then horribly sad that you think your congress idiots care one bit about anyone but themselves!

Re: Re: Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

Elected representatives may not do anything about this. But you better believe this is the sort of thing that the ACLU takes up arms for. I hope they've been made aware of this and legal action is forthcoming.

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

This gives me a stomach-ache. It's time for a good ol'-fashioned passive resistance demonstration. I suppose they'll taser everyone and cause a few deaths, but I'm afraid that is exactly what will have to happen eventually. What a country we've become!

Demonstrate Inconsistency of Practice to Others

Demonstrating inconsistency of appropriate clothing regulations at federal building would be very enlightening.
A good test of the probable lack of consistency of the policy/practice of Security at the National Archives (and likely other government buildings) would be to have different people visit wearing various clothing items with different types of imprinted messages. Some messages would be non-political text even some what some individuals would consider tasteless. Others would be various candidate supportive. And then also clothing with messages on various current issues, including for impeachment of Bush and/or Cheney. The purpose is to see and record what actions by Security agents take place. Let the facts speak - which I think would be very enlightening to those who continue to defend the Administration. Also, the individuals being told to remove/cover their worn messages - or leave - should ask for a copy of the regulation that they are being told they are violating. Then an organization or individual has something they s/he can critique publicly. And if there is no such regulation, that too is good information - that policies are not being recorded but passed down from above verbally. Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

Sigh! Unfortunately such fascistic did not begin with the (mal)administration of the Shrub.

I recall on a 4th of July during the Reagan/Bush interregnum, I was on the grounds of the Washington Monument handing free copies of the Zenger! free newspaper to those that approached me and asked. Before long I was approached by a quite fascist Park Ranger, threatening to arrest me for distributing literature (which he found offensive. I looked at him in disbelief! "You would threaten to arrest me, here on the grounds of a monument to our Founding Father, who fought to secure the blessings of freedom and liberty, the day on which we celebrate our freedom? Are you mad?" He took umbrage at the remark and was trying to wrestle me to the ground to put those nice nickel bracklets on me when a superior who had seen the whole affair came rushing over, rudely dismissed the young fascist punk and apologized. Today I'd be on my way to Gitmo, eyes and ears taped, sedative suppositories crammed into my rear for the same behavior.

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

Why even bother displaying the Constitution? Obviously nobody's read it or even cares.

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

It is ironic that while China is taking steps to become more democratic, the US is moving in the other direction. :)

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

News? I am not looking forward to future grandchildren questioning our courage by tolerating such things.

Re: Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

dont worry. they will have grown up in a totalitarian society. we will be vilified for not conforming for the 'greater good'

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

In defending The Constitution, can someone please answer this serious question... what amount of force is legal when someone oversteps their 'boundries' in an unconstitutional method. ie. Would I be able to use lethal force, force equal to the force being used against me, or have to take it up the ass, like we all seem to be doing because of FASCISM

Re: Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

Any means necessary, without limitation. You see, that document(and public acceptance therof) is the sole thing distinguising the US government from an armed robber on the street.

When the government ignores the documents that it claims legitimize it's access to arms and force, it becomes no different that a foreign army of occupation or an armed criminal on the street.

While no US court will ever agree(vested interest, of course), the moral reality is that the use of force to resist any form of extra-constitutional activity by the government has the same legitimacy as insurgency in an occupied nation or the use of armed force to repel a criminal assault on your person.

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

I feel sorry for Americans, your country is being run by real criminals, what a shit hole

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

If you are in or near D.C. please visit the archives with the same or similar t-shirts visible as soon as possible to make a statement.

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

Just another reason to vote for Ron Paul... there may yet be hope for the Constitution.

Re: Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

I think the best reason to vote Ron Paul was seen on Stormfront (the white nationalist/supremacist/racist web forum) "He is a White guy with White values" I think that sums up Ron Paul pretty damn well and if you are going to vote for Ron Paul that should be the reason! That being said if you are against racism you should not vote for Ron Paul, but if you are a proud white person like I am sure Sarah is you should put down your vote for Ron Paul!

The NARA comment/complaint page is located athttp://www.archives.gov/contact/inquire-form.html#part-c

If enough people complain, maybe they will stop being such idiots.

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

Maybe the people guarding the Constitution should try actually READING the Constitution. I'm getting tired of this police state. Impeach these bastards already!

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

Where are the goose stepping Nazi thugs??? Bush gutted the Constitution and Bill of Rights with the introduction of the Patriot Act.

Re: National Archives bars/boots wearers of articles of impeachment

As a former archivist (now a professor) I say good for them. They were correct to keep you crackpots out. Archives are for research, not for juvenile outbursts.
