Iraq Moratorium Day
National Day of Action
Against the Military Recruiters
More and more military recruitment centers have recently opened to pull high school students into the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. Stop the business as usual of dragging youth into the war machine!
With righteous indignation, ridicule, and reality, we will gather students, antiwar activists, and many others, to say NO! We're going on FIVE years of this immoral, unjust war. The people must stop it.
Actions in Berkeley, California have repeatedly shut down the new recruiting station near Berkeley High School and the city council of Berkeley California recently passed a resolution that this new recruiting station "is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders." Pro-war Senators are threatening to take the city's federal money away, and pro-war protesters are vilifying the council’s stand against the war. As this notice goes out, FOX NEWS has been covering this story as it develops in Berkeley.
More people should take the stand of those in Berkeley - it needs to spread across the country. The majority of people in this country ARE against the war and ARE against torture, and many people ARE searching for something beyond protest-as-usual to end the war.
This is no time to be complacent. The military is now spending more than $4 Billion on recruiting and they're in the process of opening new recruitment centers across the country.
Military recruiters will often lie to potential recruits about life in the military, a fact substantiated by the GAO and all the major media outlets.
The soldiers in the Silver Spring station spend their day making calls and mailing notices to unsuspecting youth who attend local high schools, using confidential lists provided by school officials.
Last week, Major General Thomas P. Bostick, Commander of the U.S. Army Recruiting Command,
(USAREC) testified before the Military Personnel Subcommittee of the U.S. Senate. The Major General asked Senators to change the law so that parents would no longer be allowed to "opt out" of lists being forwarded by high school administrators to the military. He said access to our nation's schools and student information is critical to military recruiting. This is outrageous. We're on the street. JOIN US!

Resistance to what a free Irish state that is being resisted by English invaders who use the color orange! Or maybe it is resistance to change like in the Ukraine when an Orange Revolution was ended after their enemy got made prime minister and others got high positions. Or could it be a resistance to justice like in Gitmo where people are being held in orange jumpsuits without access to lawyers or trials or actually being charged and guilty of anything! Orange is the color of hardship and betrayal and horrible oppression not a color of resistance unless it is resistance to freedom and justice and democracy.

Is this going to continue as planned or join forces with this action?

1: orange or lime green safety jerseys worn by
construction workers and some bikers/walkers
in car-infested zones. Orange is used here
simply to stand out visibly, but is being
replaced by lime green to distinguish workers
from all those orange cones and barrels to
half-blind motorists.
2: "Guantanimo Orange" when people are
explicity dressed in orange JUMPSUITS as
gitmo detainees. Orange is the color of
Guantanimo(indeed, of prison) and is
appropriate in this specific context.
Especially effective with black hood.
If there is one thing I would be greatly insulted by, it's being called an "Orangeman" when you think about what the Orange Order in Britain and Occupied Ireland(6 counties) really stands for.
If a potential recruit who happens to be Irish is blocked by a bunch of "orangemen" he will have a field day attacking us all-and we will deserve it for adopting the color of his ancestral enemies. There is no need to open ourselves to this line of attack by adoptign Orange as a polical or uniform color outside the Guantainimo Bay context.

In fact, the last few wars have made us less free!
I keep me free, Imperialist wars of choice and for profit do not keep me free.

Bostick's plea to the U.S. Senate follows. In essence, he calls for abolishing the "opt out" and instead argues that "young adults" should be able to make decisions by themselves. In other words, parents are in the way and should no longer be allowed to block the military from receiving private information from children.
btw.. most high school students are not adults! There's a double standard here. God forbid if you give high school kids a drink or have sex with them, but it's O.K. to recruit them into the armed forces?
Another thought. Now that this has been posted on the dreaded Indymedia site, Montgomery County will probably have between 20 to 30 heavily armed officers on the street, some in riot gear. It would be great to match their numbers! They've been surpassing our numbers in several recent demonstrations.
Statement By Major General Thomas P. Bostick Commander, U.S. Army Recruiting Command United States Army - Before the Military Personnel Subcommittee United States Senate Second Session, 110th Congress - January 31, 2008
"The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) provided Armed Forces recruiters access to student recruiting information and the same access to students enjoyed by colleges and prospective employers. Under current legislation, however, the military can be singled out when students or parents "Opt-Out" from having their contact information released to the military. In the same schools, there is no opt-out option against postsecondary schools or prospective employers receiving contact information. In addition, there is no established timeframe for a school to provide the student information upon request by the military recruiting services. We have instances where schools have promised repeatedly to provide the list, but ultimately give it to our recruiters too late in the year to be of much use.
We desire the opportunity to tell the Army story to young adults and let them decide for themselves whether or not service in the Army is the right choice to help them reach their full potential. Access to our Nation's schools and student information is critical to this effort. We need your help to ensure all our Nation's youth have the opportunity to hear what the Army has to offer."

I want to see white hegemony over our Earth forever brought to an end, with a single standard of living from Georgetown to Botswana.
I will happily accept $10 a gallon gas in return for no more of the global misery the US system of stealing everything that isn't nailed down abroad so it can be made into throwaway toys for Wal-mart. I want to see all that con$umer shit the war is fought to mantain access to disappear from store shelves.
On the shelves vacated by no-longer made sweatshop designer clothes, $200 shoes, Windows Vista, hi-def TV's, and caviar, I want to see to see the basic essentials of life at affordable prices, in all parts of town. Good produce in Anacostia, no "Primavera Crate Veal" in Georgetown.
I want to see everyone guaranteed the right to housing and food-but nobody able to find luxury items because an economy not based on imperialism can't produce many of them.
THIS is what the war is about-it's about keeping other people poor so the few can be rich and con$ume soooo much!
Support the Troops? Like Hell
As to the troops, I hope they all end up like me, living on the street, eating out of garbage bins and suffering the ill effects of chemical defolients and biological weapons.
