Funk the War marches on recruiter after cops get ROUGH

Friday, June 20th was another Moritorium day(3rd Fri of the month). DC's action was an SDS "Funk the War" rush-hour street march, with the 14th and L recruiter on the target list as usual. This time around, there were a multitude of physical attacks by cops.

From the very start, cops hemmed in the formation with bike and motorcycle cops. At several times, people were tackled and detained. Since no arrests or charges ensued, the cops must have been the ones out of line.

Neither police harassment nor problems with the mobile sound system were able to stop the marchers, so once again the 14th and L recruiter was invited to the party-or rather the party invited itself to the recruiter!

At the recruiter, cops heavily defended the site-and Capt Harold had the nerve to declare stickers on the window "property destruction"-and declare the entire event an "unlawful assembly." He ordered everyone to clear the streets or be removed by force. The crowd called his bluff and ignored his orders!

Since stickers on windows are NOT property destruction, Harold did NOT follow through on his threats, and marchers remained in the streets! In addition his forces(He said at the start he had 60 on call) were outnumbered by the estimated 100 marchers who turned out on less than one week's notice.

The police behavior jives both with reports that GOP groups have goaded the FBI into "investigating" "attacks" on recruiters(some of which are just protests, some are the real thing)-and the cop I overheard saying that police agencies were filling up with Iraq vets who wanted to treat protesters as "insurgents."

Of course, if this was Iraq, the "insurgent suspects" would often be shot on sight, and the occupation authorities would be dodging IED's and snipers, not boomboxes and banners in the streets!

Tackling incident? The "protester" is running away from the police and falling down.

Re: Funk the War marches on recruiter after cops get ROUGH

^Running away from the cops? FACING them but running away? Just inches from the cop who has his hand on the guy and his left FOOT tripping the guy, and you say the guy is "running away" and "falling down"? You need to see a good eye doctor.

And may I ask, are people filing mass complaints against the cops each time this stuff happens? If everyone involved who was remotely harassed and assaulted would show up and file formal complaints every single time, it not only creates a pretty long and big paper trail, it also forces them to spend time and energy every time one of their "troops" engages in this sort of stupid behavior. Obviously they don't really care if their cops assault people, but we've had numerous examples of winning lawsuits against the cops in DC and elsewhere, and creating a paper trail to establish clear consistent patterns of abuse is worth while.

Re: Funk the War marches on recruiter after cops get ROUGH

Yeah, that video is pretty clear. The cop is charging the guy and pushing him to the ground, the guy is falling backwards and trying to keep his balance but can't.
