Inter County Constructors, the primary contractor of "Contract A" of the ICC, seems to be focussing on the interchanges at Ga Ave, Redland Road, and expecially Shady Grove where a new brige has been erected. The only other activity of note seems to be demolition of all the Cashell homes taken by the ICC except those visible from Redland Road.

GA Ave(LAND BEING CLEARED HERE!):

At Ga Ave crews seem to be focussed on flattening the land on the far side of Ga Ave to prepare for building the Ga Avwe interchange-the end point of Contract A. It appears that LAND IS BEING CLEARED AND TREES REMOVED to make way for a temporary connection to Route 28 for use when (and IF)the first segment opens ahead of the others. A cleared dirt road exists now but is probably too narrow and I do not know yet how far it goes.

SECURITY SITUATION HERE: A videographer from potomac Earth First had to duck into the woods to avoid an unknown person when a recent video(about the Sycamore Acres clearcut www.youtube.com/watch ) was shot. New looking signs on the Ga Ave staging area fence warn "No Trespassing."

SHADY GROVE ROAD:

At Shady Grove Road, a new bridge for the ICC has been erected over Shady Grove Road.This has been at the expense of repeated closures of Shady Grove Road for up to 15 miniutes at a time-for a highway many in the Derwood commounty will never be able to afford to use. Security here has included a park cop who is very commonly seen parked on the south side of Shady Grove Road, east side of the ICC construction area. This cop has been a common sight for months.

REDLAND ROAD/CASHELL ESTATES:

Here construction crews have been digging furiously to create the underpass for the ICC below Redland Road. It is here(where construction has generated a serious neighborhood hazard to children) that signs about a "restricted access jobsite" have been posted. Of course, neighborhood 5 year olds wanting to see a "real Tonka truck" won't be reading that!

There has been a sudden increase in security and warning signs at ICC construction sites in general (visible also at the Ga Ave staging area).

On yesterday's tour of ICC sites,at Cashell Estates a suspicious white car (often seen before at a distance) came down Garret Road within minutes of my own entry to snap more photos. He parked blocking Garret Road but was no effective obstacle to a photographer on a bike.

After bypassing him to get more shots, I turned back to question him and see if he was the beseiged owner of the last house standing on Garret Road. He admitted he is not-and in his car were a lot of clipboards and such things. This shows him to be a securty guard. About 15 minutes later I observed a cop car approach his car-and then both cars sped off down Redland Road!

This is while environmental activists have been copying down all names of suppliers whose information is stenciled on the sides of their equipment. The sudden increase in
security within two weeks of the initial pulication of names from this hardware implies that someone is feeling the heat of public opposition to the ICC!

At Cashell Estates an additional situation exists. Salvagers ripping copper pipe from houses before they were smashed by bulldozers led to lurid news articles about crime-and fearful neighbors asked for police patrols. Someone has had a white car with a security guard around there for quite some time.

It is unknown if the security guard works for the beseiged neighbors-or for Inter County constructors, the primary contractor on Contract A whose name has suddenly appeared on so many boastful signs. If he works for the neighbors, he ought to do something about the bulldozer-wielding vandals who have been trashing the community. If he works for Inter County Constructors, that is another matter.
