July 4-Stoners march, Critical Mass,-and N-word sign(Lafayette Pk) provokes controversy

On July 4th, at least 500 advocates of hemp legalization, maybe 1,000, marched from the white house to the Mall for a concert. They left behind a raging controversy over a lone protester's sign deemed racist by many. Later, 50 plus bikers took to the streets for a July 4thy Critical Mass.

The "Pot Parade" was the largest I've seen since before 9/11 was used as an excuse to install checkpoints on the Mall-blocking free access to the 23 st concert area.

Organizers stopped the parade at 17th st and Constitution Ave, suggesting dispersal and entry by randomly-picked checkpoints. The intention was to defeat the special attention the "pot parade" always receives from the cops at "checkpoint Charlie." About half the group dispersed, the other half followed the organizers through the 'special" checkpoint. You can bet that any and all hemp entered by other checkpoints, defeating the cop's goal of blocking it at 23ed st.

A sign set up by "Gonzo," a lone protester against Bush, provoked much heated controversy in Lafayette with it's use of the notorious "N-word."

In an interview, Eric Shipton, an Africa-American homeless advocate, stated that Gonzo is probably trying to call Bush stupid and state that a "good Black man," namely Obama, would be far superior to those Bush fools in office now.

None the less, a sign like that erected by a white man left a foul taste in the mouths of many.

Critical Mass fell on July 4th this month. Taking advantage of the situation, riders dressed up some of their bikes for the occasion. A special sound system was built and pulled in a trailer behind a bike. High bikes and choppers once again appeared on the scene as well.

At least 50 riders participated this month holiday or not!

Re: July 4-Stoners march, Critical Mass,-and N-word sign(Lafayette Pk) provokes controversy

at the security checkpoints this year they used event security instead of law enforcement officals. i guess they wanted to save $. but it would be real easy to sneak something in. they also don't search anyone who does not have a backpack.

i actually find the "let's put a black man in the whitehouse..." sign funny. though, i don't really understand the gonzo connection, i guess the guy who made the sign is a fan.

The guy didn't know shit about Gonzo! I think he was trying to be shocking so people would come up too him and talk to him about what he was using.

Why are they "stoners?" As you say later, 500 -1000 advocates for hemp legalization. Luke, "Stoner" is a pejorative term why do you insist on using that term
