LOCAL Announcement :: Anti-War/Peace

Time To March on Rummy's House Again

It is time to demand resignation. I am thinking Wednesday, May 12. Meet at Dupont Circle at 5:00 PM and March at 6:00.
Bring Friends, and whatever you think could make for a successful day.
Just an idea as of now. It would be nice to have a march run by the people, not an organization, any input?

Once again Luke talking a big game

Re: Time To March on Rummy's House Again

Even so, DAWN may endorse the march and help get the word out. You should at least post the announcement to our listserves. We have people in our group trying to put the same together, and we almost had a spontaneous march there this morning but instead went to the Sunday morning talk shows.

Re: Time To March on Rummy's House Again

There is also now a call by Code Pink and others to go to Rumsfeld's house on Thursday at 6:00 to 6:30 PM on Thursday. Let's go both days.

good call t :)

Re: Time To March on Rummy's House Again

Here is the Thursday call. Again, I reiterate that you all should definitely go out on Wednesday as well, and I hope to be out there both days, if you are still serious about doing this without organizational support on Wednesday. The more the merrier...

Activists to March on Rumsfeld's House Thursday Night

A majority of Americans believe that Donald Rumsfeld has done an excellent job as Defense Secretary. President Bush has vowed to stand by his military chief. Vice President Cheney says Rumsfeld is the best Secretary of Defense the US has ever had and that people ought to let him do his job. Leading Congressional Republicans applauded Rumsfeld's congressional testimony and reaffirm their support for him.

Doesn't this make you sick? Sick enough to act?

Join us in Dupont Circle on Thursday, May 13, between 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm for "Mock Torture", a street theatre enactment of the Abu Ghraib Prison atrocities. Following the presentation we will march in a "Torture Procession" to Rumsfeld's house where we'll perform a shocking re-enactment of the abuses and demand his resignation. Participants are encouraged to dress in military fatigues and bring large reproductions of the infamous photos.

This action is being organized by activists from several local groups, including Shirts Off, DAWN and Code Pink. For more information: Pat Elder, 202-302-5548 elder (at) chesapeake.net or Adam Eidinger, 202-744-2671, enrages (at) bellatlantic.net

Re: Time To March on Rummy's House Again

I am there Wednesday and Thursday! I will also be going by there this afternoon, since I am so ticked off about Bush's dim-witted endorsement today.

I like dressing in black and having skull masks — you know the whole grim reaper thing — rather than fatigues. I just don't think we should be indicting/stereotyping all military personnel.

Rummy's place is on Kalorama, approximately two blocks west of Connecticut.
