Army recruiter bombed in Iraq

On Tuesday, July 15, two suicide bombers blew up a recruiting station for Iraqi security forces, killing at least 28 recruits by the Chinese Xinhua News Agency's reckoning.

Killing: Baluch de jure ruler blames Pakistan

The de jure ruler of Baluchistan, the Khan of Kalat Mir Suleman Daud Ahmedzai, has said Pakistani establishment was responsible for the killing of a close relative in Kalat. Ahmedzai said the killing will not break the Baluch resolve for freedom.

Memorial to fallen cyclist desecrated

At Connectiout Ave and R st, a cyclist was run down and killed on July 8. Her name was Alice Swanson, and she was run down by a garbage truck. Now, the "Ghost Bike"memorial at the site of the crash has been desecrated with a drawn-in mustache on Alice's picture, courtesy of some goon with a Magic Marker.

Baluch hail Kabul probe into nuclear dump

President Hamid Karzai has ordered a probe into Pakistan military dumping of nculear waste in Kanadahar and Helmand after the May 1998 tests, when the Taliban were ruling Afghanistan. People in Pakistan's renegade state of Baluchistan have voiced support for Karzai's move.

ACLU of Maryland Lawsuit Uncovers Maryland State Police Spying Against Peace and Anti-Death Penalty Groups

"Approximately 20 people attended the meeting at the Electrik Maid activist center in Takoma Park. …After the meeting, [blacked out] set up a covert e-mail account, was accepted on the Maryland Campaign to End the Death Penalty Yahoo List Server and also contacted a man who attended the Takoma Park meeting about attending future meetings."

BALTIMORE – The American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland today made public what it called "shocking" documents obtained through a Maryland Public Information Act (MPIA) lawsuit, revealing that the Maryland State Police (MSP) engaged in covert surveillance of local peace and anti-death penalty groups for over a year from 2005-2006. The organization expressed alarm at the incomprehensible spying revealed in 43 pages of summaries and computer logs, none of which refer to criminal or even potentially criminal acts, other than a few isolated references to plans for completely nonviolent civil disobedience.

On Monday, July 14, Daniel appeared in federal court in the Western District of Wisconsin (Madison) before Judge Barbara Crabb and was found in civil contempt for his refusal to answer questions before a grand jury.
